Speaker meets with OHCHR delegation

The visiting delegation from the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the People’s Majlis Hon. Qasim Ibrahim to assess how OHCHR can assist in the government’s efforts to improve human rights in the Maldives. During the meeting held at the People’s Majlis, Speaker Qasim Ibrahim noted the importance the government attaches in strengthening democratic principles and the promotion and protection of human rights in the country. The Speaker also discussed the positive developments of Maldivian democracy and human rights.

During the meeting, the Chief of Rule of Law, Equality and Non-Discrimination Branch, Ms. Mona Rishwam highlighted the work done by the delegation during the visit.

Secretary-General, Uza. Fathimath Niusha and Director of Foreign Relations, Ms. Zuyyina Badhree of the People’s Majlis Secretariat accompanied the Speaker during the meeting.
