People’s Majlis holds its Third sitting of the First session

People’s Majlis holds its third sitting of the first session today.

At today’s sitting the nominations sent by the President for the post of a Member of the Elections Commission as per Article 4 (b) of the Elections Commission Act (Act No. 8/2008) was sent to the Committee on Independent Institutions for review.

In addition, the committee report on the nominations sent by the President for the consultation of the Majlis, in accordance with Article 115 (i) of the Constitution for the appointment of the Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand was presented to Majlis floor by the Committee on National Security. The report was presented by the Chair of the Committee, Hon. Ibrahim Mohamed Didi, MP for Central- Hithadhoo.

36 members unanimously voted to recommend the nomination of Ms. Aishath Azeema of M. Beenaafushi for the post of the Ambassador of the Maldives to the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Mohamed Khaleel of G. Uthurugeaage for the post of the Ambassador of the Maldives to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Mr. Mohamed Jinah of Ma. Thiburoaz for the post of the Ambassador of the Maldives to the Kingdom of Thailand.

Furthermore, the Bill on the Amendment to the Pension Act (Act No. 8/2009) and the Bill on Presidential Commissions on Investigating Suspicious Deaths and Corruption Probe was on the agenda. However, voting on these bills was postponed as the voting quorum was not obtained at the voting time.

The next sitting of the People’s Majlis is scheduled to be held on February 27, 2019.
